The tenth Prepare to Preach weekend saw over 80 delegates of whom 40 were attending for the first time gather at Kings Park in Northampton. A welcome meal followed by a challenging first session on the importance and emphasis that the Reformation gave to the church’s life and ministry.
Saturday began with prayers and then the delegates split into 2 groups. Those attending for the first time looked at the Convictions and Characteristics of the preacher and then how to Commence and Construct a sermon. In the meanwhile the returning delegates looked at the 5 ‘sola’s of the reformation and their importance and place in the life of the church.
For those first time delegates the afternoon gave them opportunity to construct a ‘mini’ sermon on using the principles laid out in the morning sessions with support from the tutors if needed. This was followed by the opportunity for some to deliver their sermon and receive feedback . Meanwhile the other group continued look at the Reformation. Saturday evening was given over to a light hearted quiz on church history.
Sunday morning prayers prepared us for the final sessions. The delegates learned how we communicate on multiple levels and feedback on how the ‘mentoring’ days throughout the early part of the year could be delivered. All too soon the final session arrived giving delegates the opportunity to consider their next steps in regards to preaching. This was followed by a time of ministering too and praying for each other before a final blessing from Noel the delegates from all the divisions in the returned home challenged, inspired and blest.
