‘We always seem to be confined to barracks and no longer a Salvation Army of old.  Was it not said the Army is a dying organisation so let’s try these new and exciting ideas in our own areas.’

‘We need to break the mentality of thinking that we have to get people into a church building to hear the Gospel.’

‘We need to continually be listening to the community ‘

‘I thought it was a great day , I really felt the spirit stirring us , a great encouragement’

‘Each church, corps is different, it’s not one shape fits all. We need to continually look outward’

‘An excellent day,’

These are just a few of the comments we received from the 76 delegates, representing 16 Corps, who attended the Vision Day in the North East England Division.

The day began with opening worship and heartfelt prayers that the Spirit of God would move amongst us and of course, He did.

Many people were challenged by the teaching of Majors Andrew and Andrea Vertigan who inspired and led the day in a way that directed those who had gathered to really consider how they could reach the lost with the message of God’s love in new ways.    Stories were shared of how new fresh expressions of Church were taking shape throughout the Salvation Army.

‘We need to break the mentality of thinking that we have to get people into a church building to hear the Gospel.’

A choice of seminars was available during the afternoon –   Pioneering in the Salvation Army, Mixed Economy and an overview of the Mission Shaped Ministry Course – which were informative and brought much interest and discussion from the delegates.

Throughout the day there was much discussion and prayer and a sense of excitement at where God was leading those who attended as they go forward with new ideas and a eagerness to explore new ways of building Christian community.
